There is also a ‘navy strength’ variety available which is 57% alcohol by volume (100° English proof), being the traditional strength demanded by the British Royal Navy as this was the proof that would not prevent gunpowder from igniting, should it be compromised by spilled spirit.

i’ve been looking for this, and I need help finding a bottle

I have some close friends living in London; I could have them procure a bottle if you like? I’ve been wanting to try this too! I’m a huge nerd for historical recipes, and Naval strength gin is right up my alley. I’m trying to locate a bottle of Pusser’s British Navy Rum in Chicago as well…

So…..is GR saying that Citadelle Reserve is their favourite/best gin ? Above Brokers etc ? lol I woudl disagree …but it’s interesting as it sorta comes down to how far you can go with “gin’ before it becomes a pseudo flavoured gin spirit rather than pure gin….
Let’s try Sipsmiths (similar to Brokers) and Plymouth navy strength again…. :-)
Interesting point is that Brokers actually recommends that you keep their gin in a freezer a la vodka. Which seems to go against the common held belief that this is bad in terms of bringing out the botanicals.

    Colleen,

I had the Pusser’s Naval Rum in South Carolina, and we had a great experience walking along the beach drinking it. I’d be open to securing a bottle of Navy Strength we can all share. When I had tried the Navy Rum, I had to try the Navy Gin.
